In October 2020, a loan was signed and disbursed with Banco Santander, emphasizing that this operation was backed by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) of the World Bank. The USD 600 million loan had an 8-year term, with a 4-year grace period on interest payments. This guarantee allowed a favorable cost since creditors are backed by an Aaa World Bank's credit risk rating.
This is the first loan in Mexico backed by a MIGA guarantee aimed at financing working capital for those sectors affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, Bancomext and the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) signed a Collaboration Agreement, resulting in:
- The Inter-Institutional Planning and Follow-up Committee being formed, with the participation of the SRE, the Office of the Presidency, the Ministry of Economy (SE), and Bancomext, holding four follow-up meetings or videoconferences throughout the first semester of 2020.
- Support to SRE in promoting trade and direct foreign investment being analyzed through the secondment of Bancomext officials in the Mexican Embassies and Consulates abroad or through the channeling of opportunities captured by the diplomatic representations, which are channeled to the bank for their attention and follow-up.
"Collaboration Agreements" with banking institutions and foreign public organizations are pursued to reposition Bancomext in international markets, aiming to promote the flow of foreign investments to Mexico, finance and/or guarantee projects of interest between the parties, and to expand international markets for Mexican export products.
